Finally watched Food Inc, with Marina at Somerville Theatre in Davis Square. It was an incredibly infromative and detailed documentary of the food industry in the USA. It’s incredible how consolidated and at times corrupt the whole system is. There are some scenes difficult to watch, such as when 15 factory workers a day are given to immigration authorities, in exchange for not making a massive raid on the plant itself, which could stop meat production. Or when the chickens are made to grow so fast and so large that their legs can not support the weight and they fall over every few steps. Or cows that are clearly sick or injured, being prodded into the slaughterhouse by heavy machinery. Or, the fact that cows are fed corn because it is cheap, even though their bodies do not process it correctly, and they develop E.Coli, which is treated by antibiotics that get in our food, make the cows sick, and make the slaughterhouse workers sicker, when that whole problem could be solved by giving them GRASS!
